RTU-1 · Packaged rooftop equipment
Rooftop unit installation, replacement and repair
Packaged rooftop units carry most of the cooling load in Central Texas retail, office and warehouse space. We set new units, change out tired ones on existing curbs, and keep running units on the roof and off the emergency list.
What's included
- New RTU installationUnit selection, curb and structural coordination, gas and electrical tie-in by the right trades, and startup.
- Like-for-like and upgraded replacementsChange-outs on existing curbs, or curb adapters when the new unit's footprint doesn't match the old one.
- Crane lifts and roof logisticsWe plan the pick, the street or lot closure, and the timing so tenants aren't left without air for longer than needed.
- Repair and troubleshootingCompressors, condenser fan motors, blowers and belts, economizers, controls, heat sections and refrigerant leaks.
- Economizers and controlsEconomizer repair and setup, thermostats and unit controllers, so outside air works the way it was designed to.

Common questions: Rooftop Units (RTUs)
Can a new rooftop unit go on my existing curb?
Often, yes. If the new unit's footprint and duct openings don't line up with the old curb, we use a curb adapter instead of replacing the curb, which usually saves roofing work and time.
How long does an RTU change-out take?
Most single-unit change-outs are done in one day once the equipment is on site, including the crane lift, connections and startup. Larger jobs are scheduled in phases so part of the building stays conditioned.
Do new rooftop units use a different refrigerant?
Most new units built since 2025 use A2L refrigerants such as R-454B or R-32 instead of R-410A. We handle both, and we can tell you whether repairing an older R-410A unit or replacing it makes more sense.
Do you handle the crane?
Yes. We coordinate the crane, the lift plan and the timing with building management, so the pick happens safely and on schedule.
